Ironically I never really paid attention to this day and like many of us, it kind of slips through our calendar until the day of. When the day arrives it causes many to rush to Target and find the best "thank you" card left on the shelf. Being born the eldest of four siblings in a Nigerian home, being a leader was just who I was. Bestowed upon me whether I wanted it or not. Thank you's were never warranted, I was simply doing what I knew needed to be done. It came naturally. It was evident in my personal and professional life.

There is a satisfaction of influencing those around me, striving to empower and inspire and seeing the potential in each individual that makes a dream team. On the other hand, being a leader can be a challenging road that many walk alone. There are nights that keep you up thinking about those you lead and the anxiety of not only failing yourself but failing them.Constantly in competition with yourself to strive to do more to impact the masses. The constant need to coach, teach, innovate, inspire, mentor and so much more. Even the strong need encouragement sometimes.

I'm honored to be a leader for many teams and organizations but most of all I'm honored to be surprisingly appreciated on a day I forgot about.
